“The purpose of art has been, and will continue to be, something that is debated by artists, critics and the general public. The very nature of art means that each individual engages with artwork in a different way, approaching it from their own perspective and interpreting it in their own unique way. However, in my opinion, the purpose of art is always as a means for people to express their creativity and imagination. Art pervades every aspect of our lives, it surrounds us and influences us, reflecting reality and also influencing it. One of the features of art that I find so intriguing is how a piece of artwork can present both an accurate depiction of reality and a distorted version of reality at the same time. Artists can shock, enthral or fascinate the viewer by presenting images that demand closer inspection. In these terms, distorted portraits offer a glimpse into another world, forcing the viewer to think.”
