John Sprakes ROI RBA MAFA, Drawings, Paintings and Prints Exhibition

  • The Heseltine Gallery at Chenderit School Archery Road, Middleton Cheney Banbury, OX17 2QR United Kingdom (map)
John Sprakes with organiser Chris Craggs

A wonderful exhibition of John Sprakes’ art: drawings, paintings and prints, complemented by sculptures from his brother, David Sprakes.

Most of John’s paintings are taken from life. He uses drawing as an act of discovery allowing him to explore the visual world. Drawing is the starting point for most of his ideas.

The landscapes of Norfolk, Suffolk and Northumberland are a constant source of inspiration to him. Wide expanses and the intense light found along these coastlines evoke motions that inhabit his paintings. His still life paintings draw upon memories that are historical, social and of childhood days distilled together in the final image.

John is currently living and working in Beverley, Yorkshire. In addition to mounting the exhibition at Chenderit in September he will be giving a talk and demonstration in the exhibition on Sunday 1 October from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Full details available from Middleton Cheney Library.

The whole event is organised by the Middleton Cheney Library Supporters Group and sponsored by Town and Country Plumbing and Heating, with funding from South Northamptonshire Council.
