Photographer artist Ingrid Pollard MBE opened her exhibition 'Response' at The Heseltine Gallery with a guided tour of her fascinating images, created using many kinds of photgraphic equipment from camera obscura to digital and a couple of cyanotypes.
She was Artist in Residence at Chenderit in 2008-9 and John Childs (then Head of Art & Design) was pleased to welcome her back. Current photography students attended the talk with their tutor and were given fascinating insights into the wider world of multi-media photography and historical practice.
Ingrid Pollard is one of the leading figures in contemporary British art, with work in public collections including Tate Britain, Arts Council and the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as exhibitions worldwide. She has played an important role in photography nationally and internationally since the 1980s, recognised by many international awards including Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 2016, the RPS Centenary Medal and Hasselblad Award (both in 2024).
Born in Guyana in 1953, she grew up in London and now lives and works in Northumberland. Pollard is a multi-media artist, photographer, researcher and lecturer.
